Summary:
Canadian SME offers innovations that can unlock immense opportunity to utilise GHG (greenhouse-gas) emission-free heat energy otherwise stranded by enabling conveyance over long distances at ambient temperatures via cost-effective systems installable with minimal surface disturbance. The company is looking for an investor that can help commercialize the technology via a commercial agency or financial agreement.
Description:
The company’s innovations unlock immense opportunity to utilise GHG-emission-free heat energy otherwise stranded by enabling conveyance over long distances at ambient temperatures via cost-effective systems installable with minimal surface disturbance. The solution offered will upend some green energy paradigms. The discourse around green energy is mainly focused on green power, while green heat is largely ignored. Contemporary systems transport heat energy as sensible heat, so heat losses or gains limit the distance heat can be transported. The concepts offered by the company at hand can enable long-distance transport of heat energy. These concepts unlock opportunities to utilise heat energy for power generation, heating, or absorption of cooling from vast low-temperature deep aquifer geothermal, thermal solar, and residual heat resources that may be otherwise stranded, thereby opening up immense prospects for value creation and GHG emission reduction. The product offered consists of standalone, self-sufficient, integrated heat and electrical energy networks that utilise a spectrum of equipment, components, services, control & communication systems, and optimisation software to deliver the value proposition, which enables the transport and utilisation of heat and electrical energy over long distances economically with minimal surface disturbance, thereby opening up immense opportunity for value creation and GHG emission reduction/. The company is looking for a Commercial agency or Financial agreement in order to commercialize and capitalize their product.
Type (e.g. company, R&D institution…), field of industry and Role of Partner Sought:
The company is exploring technical and commercial partners, investors, and funding options with which to advance development from TRL-5 to commercialisation. Core to that is locating partners with capital and a willingness to invest in the development of these innovations, as well as host a field testing and pilot. In parallel, options for monetising are being explored as these innovations are a superb fit for a larger firm who has the resources for commercialisation and the global footprint to capitalise on the vast market potential.
Stage of Development:
Under development/lab tested
Comments Regarding Stage of Development:
A positive opinion of the thermodynamic validity has been issued through a 3rd party vetting funded by a NSERC (Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council of Canada) grant, so technologies are at a TRL-5 stage – validation in a simulated environment. The focus is largely product development as underlying theoretical principles are established. A 4 to 6-year staged development is envisaged – further modelling, perhaps a bench scale modelling program to establish design factors for scaling up to field testing and pilot, the design, construction, operation of field tests and pilot, and commercialization. Per order-of-magnitude estimates, investments are expected to begin at $100-200,000 (€65-135,000) escalating to $3 mm (€2mm) for the pilot stage, for a total of C$5 mm (€3.3 mm).
